Misty Copeland in Swan Lake at the American Ballet Theatre
Misty Copeland returns to the stage in American Ballet Theatre’s production of the timeless ballet, Swan Lake. A feast for the senses, and a must-see whether you are an aficionado or a newcomer to ballet, this most famous of ballets is a tour de force. It features Tchaikovsky’s glorious score, spectacular costume and scenic designs, plus a ballerina’s hallmark achievement—the dual role of Odette/Odile. Being mesmerized by Copeland as she dances this iconic role is a bucket-list experience!
Swan Lake is the tragic love story of Odette, a beautiful princess turned into a swan by the evil sorcerer, Baron Von Rothbart’s curse. She is doomed to swim in a lake filled with tears and assumes her human form during the hours of darkness. The spell can only be broken by a prince who swears his eternal love and devotion to her, but Von Rothbart and his daughter, the temptress black swan, Odile, plot the downfall of Odette and her true love. This legendary tale of romance, sorcery, and betrayal will sweep you off your feet and the mist-filled rows of exquisite swans hovering protectively around their queen is a breathtaking vision that lingers long after leaving the theater.
In addition to our two drop-off locations in New York City at the Palace Hotel and 57th and Madison, Diversions will offer a stop at Lincoln Center for those who want to spend the day close to the theater. With the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts and the American Folk Art Museum nearby, along with plenty of restaurants to choose from, you can easily fill your day until the curtain rises at the gorgeous Metropolitan Opera House. Save some time to visit the Grand Tier of the opera house to see Marc Chagall’s famous murals and gaze at the view of Lincoln Center Plaza from the balcony. The perfect holiday gift for ballet fans of all ages!
We’ve adored Misty in Romeo and Juliet and Giselle, but this is truly the role of a lifetime.
