Private Evening at the Barnes
At the stroke of 5:00 PM, the public will be asked to leave, the beautiful doors will be locked and no one will be left except Diversions, 180 Renoirs, 69 Cezannes, 60 Matisses, some Picassos, a few Seurats, a sprinkling of Van Goghs and six of the most highly educated, specially trained docents to be found at any museum in the country.
We can only be talking about the renowned Barnes Foundation, the private collection of pharmaceutical magnate Alfred Barnes. This extraordinary museum houses what is considered to be the world’s premier display of French Modern and Post-Impressionist paintings. And what better way to experience it than after hours, in small docent led groups. It’s the ultimate way to view art and doesn’t get more intimate than this!
We’re planning to arrive early enough so that, on your own, you can first view the just opened Berthe M0risot: Woman Impressionist. This stunning exhibit showcases the exceptional path of a woman who defied the social norms of her time to join the Parisian avant-garde.
