“Fabulous Fashion: From Dior’s New Look to Now” will be the Philadelphia Museum of Art’s blockbuster exhibit coming this fall and, trust us on this one, it is divine!!!! Experience the drama and glamour of some of the most creative feminine fashions ever designed, from romantic ball gowns to audacious contemporary ensembles, and everything in between. Over sixty pieces showcase the museum’s outstanding costume collection and feature works by the seven designers who played key roles in shaping Dior’s renowned fashionable silhouette. From Christian Dior to Yves Saint Laurent, from John Galliano to Gianfranco Ferre, we’ll see how they used color and pattern, shape and volume, draping, metallics, and embellishments to continually reinvent the art form. Many of these exquisite outfits are on view for the very first time.
We’ve arranged to be divided into small groups for private, docent led tours followed by lunch on your own in the museum café and time to browse in the eclectic gift shop.
Next up, we’ll head to the 42nd annual Philadelphia Craft Show, one of the most prestigious in the country for contemporary crafts that include jewelry, glass, fibers, leather, metal, wood and mixed media. Out of 1,000 applicants, this juried show has selected 195 of the finest and most dynamic artists and the quality of the work is unsurpassed.
Sadly our divine day must come to an end. But not to worry----there will be plenty of room on the coach to bring home any “divine design” that has your name written all over it.
