CLEOPATRA REIGNS IN PHILADELPHIA!
The name Cleopatra conjures up an image of beauty and mystery. Hollywood portrays the Queen of the Nile as powerful and glamorous, but there is so much more to her story…Cleopatra remains one of history's greatest enigmas and her final resting place is one of Egypt's unsolved mysteries. Now her fascinating world comes alive at the world premiere of “Cleopatra: The Search for the Last Queen of Egypt” at the Franklin Institute. This amazing
exhibit takes you inside the modern day search for Cleopatra by two men on separate quests for the queen -- one under the sea exploring her life (Franck Goddio) and the other by land exploring her death (Dr. Zahi Hawass).
Walking through the exhibit's eight galleries an audio tour delivered as if the queen herself were speaking fills you in on the intriguing story of her life… the trauma, drama, seduction, deception, and war. You will see through a glass walkway under your feet, relics long hidden under the harbor’s sediment after earthquakes and tsunamis submerged ancient Alexandria more than 1,500 years ago. Included are over 150 ancient pieces—some never before seen - from the smallest gold pieces, jewelry, household items and religious tokens to colossal statues including the magnificent black granite statue of a queen of Egypt which was pulled from the sea.
You’ll have time to lunch on your own at the Reading Market and then at your leisure you can walk across the street to The Philadelphia Museum of Art Craft Show to search for more modern day treasures to take home. On hand are nearly 200 of the finest and most dynamic craft artists in the U.S. Depart at 7:30 a.m. with breakfast. 5 p.m. return enjoying wine & snacks. A day fit for a Queen (or King)! Thursday, November 11 @ $119
