TERRA COTTA SOLDIERS INVADE DC!
Nearly 2,000 years ago, thousands of life-size clay figures were
buried in a massive underground mausoleum to accompany China's first emperor,
Qin Shihuangdi, into the afterlife. An army consisting of soldiers, charioteers, archers,
musicians, generals and acrobats laid in wait until their discovery outside
the city of Xi'an in 1974.

Diversions had the pleasure of traveling to China to marvel at what is
considered to be one of the greatest archaeological finds of the 20th
century. Now we have the rare opportunity to see 15 of these incredible
soldiers and over 100 pieces from the collection on display right in our
own backyard at the National Geographic Museum.

After the exhibit our coach will make stops at the Newseum and the
National Gallery of Art where you have the opportunity to see a special
exhibit of works from Chester Dale’s collection.  His magnificent bequest includes
masterpieces by Renoir, Cezanne, Degas, van Gogh, Matisse and Monet to name a few.
Or, if you’re more in the mood for exercise you could go ice skating at the Gallery’s
Sculpture Garden rink. Depart @ 8:45 a.m. serving breakfast and a magnificent film
on the First Emperor and return @ 4:30 p.m.
